More
than Textbooks and Quizzes
Interns have done some amazing work
at MontPIRG. From passing consumer and environmental protections
to making government more accountable, student interns have
worked to break down the stereotype of "student apathy."
Just last year, MontPIRG interns:
- Helped collect over 30,000 signatures from across the
state to get I-145 on
November's ballot;
- Registered almost 2,000 students to vote;
- Convinced the Montana Public Service Commission to reject
Northwestern Energy's proposal to build more dirty power
plants;
- Created a campus recycling committee at UM so students
could have more input into the program;
- Helped hundreds of students and other Montanan's with
rental housing problems;
- and much more.
Expectations
Interns are expected to take a minimum of 2-3 credits per
semester (with each credit being the equivalent of about 3
hours a week). Internship credits can go toward an independent
study in many academic departments. In addition to working
with other interns and volunteers on a campaign, interns are
welcome to attend MontPIRG's organizing class designed to
teach students the fundamentals of grassroots organizing.
