Congressional Delegation
The annual Congressional Scorecard is one of the many citizenship tools used by U.S. PIRG and MontPIRG to preserve the environment, protect consumers, and revitalize participation in our democratic process. Going door-to-door in cities and towns across the country, U.S. PIRG and MontPIRG staff are distributing this year’s Scorecard to more than one million citizens. The Scorecard tells citizens how their elected officials voted on public interest issues ranging from the rollback of decades of environmental and public health laws to the cutting of polluter pork subsidies to the enactment of campaign reforms.

2001 Montana Legislative Session
In May, MontPIRG released its legislative scorecard for the 2001 session, grading legislators for their public interest voting record.  Scores are based upon votes on a range of issues including: revisions to the citizen initiative process, public health, changes to environmental laws, consumer protections and energy policy.

Overall, both the Senate and House received an "F" for environmental protection, the Senate an "F" and House a "C" for democracy issues, the Senate a "D-minus" and House an "F" for energy policy and the Senate a "C" and House a "D" for public health.

"This was a special interest legislature, and the biggest special interest were the power companies," said MontPIRG lobbyist Matthew Leow.
